What is dental veneer?


It is a method used to treat dental diseases such as fractured, worn and dysfunctional teeth. Dental veneers, which are applied in times of tooth loss, serve two purposes as aesthetic or functional. Dental crown treatment, which is one of the most common applications of prosthodontics, can also be applied to missing teeth with dental bridge application.


How are dental veneers performed?


Dental veneer is a dental treatment method that can be completed in 2 or 3 sessions. After deciding on the veneer material and type to be applied to the damaged tooth, an impression of the tooth or teeth to be veneered is taken. After the impression, the relevant tooth is cleaned. The prepared dental molds are attached to the tooth and the patient is given an appointment for the next session to get used to the dental mold. In the last session, the dental crown application is completed.


Types of Dental Veneers


There are many methods applied in dental veneer treatments.   • Zirconium Veneers: Zirconium is a white colored substance that resembles the natural color of the tooth and can be found in nature. This application, known as zirconium veneers, is actually not the veneer of zirconium material on the tooth, but zirconium-supported. In other words, zirconium-supported porcelain teeth are applied. Since zirconium is very close to the natural color of the teeth in terms of color and is a very strong material, zirconium veneer is the most preferred type of dental veneers.
  • Porcelain Veneers: It is a type of dental veneers made by veneering porcelain on the damaged tooth. Porcelain dental veneers, which are highly resistant to fracture, can be adapted to the color of the patient’s own teeth.
  • Metal Supported Porcelain Veneers: It is the most well-known and traditional type of dental veneers. Metal-supported veneers are the most affordable ones. It is applied by making metal supports under porcelain. Although it is the cheapest type of dental veneers, it is a disadvantageous type of dental veneers in terms of aesthetic appearance.

Empress Veneers: It is a type of dental veneer consisting of a mixture of glass and ceramic without the need for metal support. Its durability is increased compared to porcelain. With its structure that transmits light very well, empress dental veneers, also known as E-max veneers, are frequently used in aesthetic prosthesis procedures.
